This adaptive dance class will allow children to work at their own pace. Classes will focus on each child’s abilities not disabilities. Every accomplishment will be celebrated!
The class will perform in our Annual Recital in June for those who wish to participate. Costumes will be ordered as well.
Classes begin the week of September 12th, we are looking forward to another terrific year of "My Time To Shine"!
"My Time to Shine" goals:
- allow each child to develop basic dance skills in a fun, nurturing, low pressure and supportive environment
- foster self-confidence, communication and social interaction
- focus on motor coordination and body control
- choreograph the freedom of movement to music
- facilitate learning through instruction and repetitioninclude trained volunteers to assist dancers
- Class will culminate with a performance at the Gotta Dance Recital in June for those who wish to participate.
Classes Offered:

Tuition: $30.00 per month
Attire: Any style of comfortable clothing or dancewear. Black leather ballet slippers. Tennis shoes if necessary.

Instructors:
Sandy Vandermeer – Sandy has been dancing for 35 years. She is the co-owner of Gotta Dance Studios with her sister Suzy. Sandy operates two locations in both Troy and Sterling Heights. The studio recently celebrated its 20th year of operation. Sandy’s love for dance has helped her develop a staff of instructors that rivals the industry’s best. With the addition of “My Time to Shine”, Sandy has opened the doors of her studio to uncover the talents and personalities of every child/young adult who loves to dance.
Laurie Como, M.A., CCC-SLP – Laurie has 24 years experience as a pediatric speech/language pathologist. She is the owner of the Como Pediatric Communication Center for Speech, Language, Occupational & Physical Therapy in Troy. Her tenure in the field has offered her the opportunity to work with children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and many other disabilities and developmental delays. Laurie’s ability to foster communication between peers will create a dynamic environment for every child/young adult through dance.
